Dear Brother
it is severel days since I wrote to you so I thought as I had a few spare moments I would write you a short letter and let you know that I am here yet and the mud has dried up some but the river is rising very fast and I dont know but we will have to take shiping or swim fore soon. it has raised some 15 feet the last week and when it raises that much more we will have to move or by the by we may wake up some morning and find our selfs in the river but I hope not for we have got very good quarters I am in with A & J McConnell Geo Clark Erastus Lee but / Jim McConnell went up to memphis to guard some prisiners the other day. you see there was a wedding down the river 15 or 20 miles afew days ago and some of our cavilry men thought they would like to see the performance so they went in and after it was over they gave 17 men rebs of corse a very polite invitaion to accompney them up here to camp and as there was no use of talking they came along and they wer sent up to memphis and Jim was one of the guards and Ain went up to little Rock as a guard for gurrilleys So Geo Rack and I are having it all alone in the shanty I believe I told you in my other letter what a time we was agoing to have Chrismus well the night before Co A was detailed on picket So Rack and Angelo Prentiss had ours to gether a waching for rebels or rather the offiser of the day So went our Chrismus and I dont think / we will have a bout the same a New Years but if Ain and James comes back soon we are exspecting to have a time when they do come rack is looking for a box when Jim gits back and Rhoda said that Anna was agoing to send me some butter if not more. and now for fear I forget I will tell you what I wish you would send me when you have a good chance in the first place I wish you would get me a nice pocket Diary of 65 Send it by mail then if you send some things in a box send me some honey and dried fruit such as you can convient you see I did not get my pay and so I have not the money to buy all I want but I borrowed some of some of the boys so you nead not send me eney money now but send a few stamps onse in a while so I can keep writing
