Campt Near Fort Gains Alabama Feb 19th 1865.
Dear Brother
I wrote to you the 13th and told you that we expected to move soon well we started the 14th at noon came to NO staid there untill 4 oclock on the 15th then we started for the lake Pontchartrain but the mud was so deep that we did not get there untill the next day at noon about 8 miles and part of the way we boated it at that there we told we was relieved from provost guard. Genl Steel was relieved becaus he would not report to Genl Ran[?]. So Co A went on board a little steamer Zephyr / and started at 5 for fort gains we had a very nice trip of 13 hours and the regt was nearly 3 days we took our old position on the right and to day we had Sunday Inspection as useule
the boys are all right except car dunn and Nathan Price they are complaining some of the ague. there is some prospect of a campain soon but we can not tell which way yet the most of them think we will not go to mobile after all from this way if we do at all. but it is a sure thing that we will have a chance to fight all we want to as the peace question has plaid OUT. well how do you get along with the draft who all is drafted in Pulteney. how do you and Josiah get along I have not had a letter from eney of them / in a long time but I have wrote to Josiah Rhoda and Mary all since I hurd from them well I dont think of eney more news the boys are feasting on oysters again I have not bin after eney yet Jim and I have bin buisey fixing up our bunk and cleaning up around and then I have an Idea that the water is rather cool yet to wade in but I dont know but I will have to try it in the morning well give my best respects to Sister Martha and write Soon
