Dear Brother
I received your letter of April 16th yesterday and was glad to learn that you wer all well I am enjoying the same blessing and so is all of the boys in the Co I believe the Co is with the regt now the regt is a bout a hundred rods from here they have a nice camp and well shaded. Chris Such is with the Co again he left Gus Prentiss at Dauphin Island he thought he would be up soon / I hurd by the way of ain that Jim was at N.O. and gaining slowly. Will Mayhan was left at Dauphin and I have not hurd from him since he acnoladged that debt of yours and said he would pay me the first chance So if he ever gets around again it will be all right. Well I commensed this about 9 oclock this morning but I had to stop and gow down town after sick and wounded there was a bout 60 of them and we did not get through till after four oclock So I dont feal much like writing you see the sick men had bin prisiners some 18 some 15 monthes taken at diferent plaices and was recaptured by our gun boats at Cahawba the wounded / wer wounded at Selma they all looked rather hard but was in good spirites we have 6 or 8 Hospitals in this city and they are all good brick buildings and are very handy with good acomadations. well the prisiners tells some hard storys about the rebels at richmond and andersonville and they wer at them plaices the most of the time but while at cahawba they wer treeted firstrate but they all got the cronic Diarea and scurvy and some of them had lost the use of thear legs. they are drawed up by the scurvy. Well Pete I will send you some papers so you can see what kind of papers we have down here onely 10 cents a piece I would have sent you some before but I had no money but I made a rais the other night and so I will try and send you one onse/ and I wish you would take care of them untill I get home well as it is geting late I will close Give my best respects all the friends and keep a share for you and Martha I wish I could send her a nice peach I have had some splendid ones here
