Dear Brother
it has bin som time since I wrote to you and for the very reason that there has not bin eneything to write about. I am well and hope you and the rest of the friends are are the same. the most of the boys are well and having a good time nothing to do but eat and drink and run around the town and visit what gals there is to see and eat figs and water melions. I never eat someney as I have eat this summer allthough we had to pay from 50. to 75. cts apiece but the worst of it is the 161 has to go to Tortugas for the rest of thear time we wer all relieved from duty here last thursday and we went out on one of the transports here to the pass to go aboard of an oacion Steamer / but it hapened there was not room for us all on board so as Co A was the last to get we did not go but came back to wait the next chance Co F. went up the river some time ago on duty and we are to wait untill they come down. that is the way we are having it so easey we have no duty to do at all and go daytimes where we pleas but it wont do to stroll about nights or the nigars will come back on us and serve us the same as we did them when we was Provost guard the boys are prety carefull not to get in the guard house for they think it will be enough to stay there time out at Tortugas and I think so to but we all feal to rejoyce that it is about the last place that US can send us unless he sends home and that will hurd our fealings bad

well I had to stop for grub it was boilt beans tea & bread and a big water melion for dessert So I feal miserbly refreshed as the boy said well I dont think of eney more to write now so I will let it rest awhile and see if I can hear eney news for the steamer Clyde has come in the bay while I / bin writing and we think there is a mail on her for the 161st Well I must stop for I feal a flea in—

well it is dark so I will fill this up so as to send it in the morning well while I was at it I caught 3 fleas then took a good swim and changed my shirt and I feal better than I did although the boat did not bring eney mail nor eney news that we can find out

Oh Pete I got some nice shells to day here in town and I wish I had a chance to express a box of them home they would be so nice to make fraimes with I have seen severel nice fraims & boxes made with them Well Pete how do you get along with your haying and harvesting I was in hopes I would be home in time to rake after or watch gap or some such light work but now I have gave up as we are going to Dry Tortugas. well perhaps I may get home time enough to see you husk corn & gether apples but it will be to cold for me to help much perhaps I may pick what I will eat if it aint to cold How does Topsey / get along have you eney other horses besides Topsey & Jenney well there is another flea—he was to smart for me & got away. we have had severel heavy thunder showers here lately and we saw two large water spoutes here in the bay the other day they looked splendid it was raining hard each side of them & there was a heavy black cloud above them they lasted about half an hour before they disapeared well the boys sends thear best respects & wishes to you & Frow and I will do the same & quit
