Soldiers of the 161st N.Y.
It is with much pride that I offer you my thanks and congratulate you upon your excellent and soldier like appearance on Inspection last evening.
Your personal apperance your armes and camp all show that you are good soldiers.
During the past six months you have experienced active service and severe trials but like men brave and true you have passed through them although very often hungry tired and sore without a murmer or shrinking from your duty thereby you have solicited the praise and respect of all who / have witnessed your manly and soldier like conduct.
Men continue to persevere in the cause you have been persuing by which you have won good reputation and high standing which you now enjoy as a Regiment.
If you do I am confident that each and all of you when your term of service has expired and you return to your homes a little more than one year hence You will never regret that you served as soldiers in the 161st or that you have spent three years in the army doing your part in the struggle for your countries honor and the reestablishment of the supremacy of our much loved flag.
