My dear Uncle Luther—
To say that I was surprised to get your book, is putting it mildly. I was not surprised, however, on reading the preface to learn that Howard had put you up to the job. I merely looked through the copy you sent me and will read it through when you send Charlotte her copy. I am sure that I will recognize some of the many anedcotes that you used to tell me long ago.
The Christmas season seemed so close that I thought I had better get busy at once so I left the book with E. T. Jett Book & News Co, 912 Olive St. This is the most prominent retail book store in town. Mr Jett said that he had had one inquiry for it and thought he could sell a few. He suggested 5 or 6 to start with. I offered him the "Sun" criticism to read but he did not care anything about it. He first said he would want about 40% but I feel pretty sure he would / be satisfied with 25%.
Another prominent retailer is Philip Roeder 616 Locust St. The most prominent wholesale book house is The John L. Bowland Book & Stationery Co, 16th & Locust St.
I would think you would do better here if you would advertise in some way, get some of the local papers to review it, for instance.
I found many items in the papers you sent me that interested me and reminded me of old times.
With much love for yourself & Aunt Kate—
Most Sincerely
Thomas Brown
I told Jett that you would write him.
