My Dear Old Soldier Friend
I have this Day Received The Book from Bull Run to Appomattox.
It is Cirtanly a thriling Narative of Events of those Days. I Read 75 Pages before I layed It down. to one like myself who went through almost 4 years takeing Part In most all the Engagements of whitch the Book Refers to It Is Just what evry Old Soldier who wore the Blue like myself will Read with delight. Comeing from one who wore the gray and had the manhood and nerve to Stand by His Cause I Cirtanly Admire a true Soldier without Regard to whitch Side He fought on but I abhore a a Coward or a Shirk on Either Side and beleive me when I Say that Had I my way thare Should be no distincton. The qustion Should never be raised as to whitch Side tha fought on. the only qustion I would ask "did you do your duety" /
Thare Is another Party out of the City who I think will want a copy of the Book He will Back about the 18th or 19th. I will wait til He Comes and will Probaly Send you your money for the 2. You asked me to Send you the Cliping from the National Tribune. I am Indeed Sorry but the Paper I find It has been Distroyed, but you Just write a Postalcard addressed The National Tribune a copy of Feb 4th Washington D.C. and you will get It. It was quite a lenthy discrepton of the Book as I Remember. The National Tribune Is the great Soldier Paper of the North I like It for Its war Storys but Its Politicks Is Roten as I see them. with many Thanks to you for your Kindness In Sending me the Book on Honor I am very Truly yours for Old Glory
