My Dear Mr. Hopkins:—
Your letter of the 29th inst. was received last evening. When "Traveler" died in the summer of 1871, his remains were buried with  view of mounting his skeleton in due time. The expert to whom the bones were sent reported that they were so discolored—presumably from the shoes which had not been removed—that they would not make a good skeleton. Within the last two or three years, I have seen a statement in the newspapers to the effect that the late Joseph Bryan of Richmond, Va., had had the bones put together, and had presented the / skeleton to W. & L. University, Lexington, Va. I presume therefore that "Traveler's" skeleton is now in the Museum of the University.

I think that Genl. Jackson's "Little Sorrel" was alive when I left Lexington in the summer of 1897. His remains, if dead, are doubtless on the grounds of the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va. A letter to the Superintendent, Genl. Edward W. Nichols, would probably secure you the information desired.

Very truly Yrs.,
G.W.C. Lee
