My dear Comrade
Yesterday I was honored by receiving the war story of your [?] and to day I have read the same with very great interest for like my self in my war story you think the war is over and have given us Yankees the credit of being good soldiers like the Southerners and have left all bitterness unsaid if you have any which I believe you have not. From a Soldier's stand point I think it one of the most interesting recitals of the life of an active soldier I ever saw in print a great credit to the author and the cause you were willing to risk your life for and in your impressions / you had the deccency to give your capters credit for fair and honorable treatment which of was also to your credit as it was no doubt the only thing you could say and be honest to yourself. We both have a cause to be very grateful after 50 years from the stiring & coming of actual warfare in all its severity to be alive and with a fair amount of physical health to tell our stories to a loyal and patriotic people who appreciate a true soldier no matter whether he wore the Gray or the Blue if he was honest in his belief no matter what the color of his uniform if his heart was white
I hope it will be the mission of our two books to make a better feeling between the sections once in array against each other if so we have not lived in vain or without a purpose
Loyaly yours Green Johnson
