S. C. Hopkins to Luther W. Hopkins, 3 April 1911
Boston Mass. Mon. Eve Apr. 3 1911
Mr. Luther W. Hopkins:
Baltimore Md.
#100 E. Lexington St.
My Dear Sir:
It is hardly fair after notifying you I would receive your book and remit duly, to withold longer the remittance and I enclose herein $1.12 (bill and 12¢ in stamps.) If you will kindly acknowledge, I shall appreciate it.
I had hoped to have at least glanced through your book before writing this, to enable me to give some expressions of liking or disliking contents, but I have a habit of picking up from our 2nd hand book stores anything I see of our / civil war history and am obliged to acknowledge that I am behind in reading up on many valuable works I have on hand—but try to reconcile that inconsistency by lending some to any comrade of the war interested to read them—holding to the belief that good books should be in the hands of those who can get enjoyment from them—and have several of my books out most of the time.
Fortunately am in excellent health and put in long hrs.—sat up and read last night and undressed by this morning's day light. Good Wishes
Yrs, &c.
S. C. Hopkins /
P.S.—Although I am not well versed in our family genealogy—it will afford me pleasure to have you tell me something of your own family ancestry. I had known of our name in Ky. but acknowledge my ignorance of Hopkins' in Va. My own family comes right down in direct family name, from Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. Stephen had a cousin—came over in 1635—and the latter's descent constitute the Hopkins' of the Williams College group in Western Mass.
S.C.H.
