Dear Wife
                        yours of Jan 25th has jest arived and was very glad to here from you was sory to here that your side was troubling you agane I hope it will be better soon was glad to hear that mother is no worse I do want to here that she is better I want to see her very much and you and all the rest of my friends that are left at home but the time looks a good ways ahead it begins to look as though thare was going to be some fighting done before long it is reported here that tha comensed fighting at Port Hudson & Vitchburg this morning dont know as it is/true if it is I hope tha will whip them this time so tha will stay whiped if tha dont beat them I think tha had better give it up and call it a bad job I think it is time this cursed war was settled up if it is ever going to be we have ben expecting to leave here every day for a weak I think whin we do go we shall go to Baton Rouge but dont know curtain your likness came safe and sound I am very much pleased with it I think it is the best one you ever hald taken I should like to send you mine and will if I can get a chanse to have it taken you wanted to know what you should do about leting Farther Freeman or Edwin having it that money Well Frances as far as I am concerned it makes but/little difernse with me if I should tell you not to let Edwin have it it would make hard feelings and so I think I hald better leave it all to you only one that will give good security I am willing to let them have it you say you will put yours with it if you are willing to do that I think you have as much to say about whare you shall put it as I have if you hald rather let your Farther have it I have no objection and you know what security you want as well as I do so you may do as you think best and it will be all right with me you must keep anough of it to last you till you can draw some more you must keep anough to clothe you in good shape and what other things you want for it belongs to you as much as me you wanted I should write what I thought about your staying at Edwins/one thing I wanted you to go thare was that I thought mother would rather have you than aney one alse but if you dont feel at home thare I would not stay perhaps tha can get some one else that will do gest as well but am afraid not if you felt as though you could stay I expect to furnish you with all the money that that you want with out asking him for it but if not I should not advise you to stay let them get some one else you must do as you think best I should like to be thare with you to night very much if I was I dont think I would come back here agane I have got about a nough of solgering I dont think of much more to write this time the boys are about the same as usal give my love to all and accept a good share yourself Write soon     Good Buy
