L. W. Hopkins Esq.

                        My dear Sir—
I have delayed thanking you for your charming book, "From Bull Run to Appomattox" until I could find time to read it. It is from just such recitals that the coming History of the People of the US must be largely made. I was nearly 11 years old when the war broke out & remember the mustering in of troops—the home coming soon after of a favorite cousin recovering from a shot through the neck but none of the horrors of war as seen on Battle field & hospitals. I thank you very much for this valuable & interesting contribution / an already important library of contemporary history.

I hope you saw enough of my old friend H. Arthur White to appreciate his warm heart as well as sterling worth

            With many thanks Yours

                                    Most sincerely
                                                William T. Forbes
