My Dear old Comrade—
Your Book "From Bull Run to Appomattox" came safely to hand and I have read it with great pleasure. It is all that you have claimed for it and gives a very truthful and pleasing review of the many scenes and incidents that crowded themselves in that space of time between 1861-65 april.

It seems to bring back to the old soldiers memory many experiences almost forgotten in the whirl of time, and I especially thank you for again jogging my recollection.

I am glad you were pleased with my article on the "Rebel and Yankee Yells". Having recently, in talking with some old Veterans, found that they had quite forgotten, if they ever could have described the Army yells, I was induced to write another article, with the Old Century article as a basis, for the Veteran. It is now in the hands of Mr Cunningham, the Editor, and will probably appear in the magazine after a little time if not right-away. I hope it will afford a few moments of pleasant reminder or discussion / for all the old soldiers both North and South who may chance to read it.

Every active soldier was not on all the battle fields, consequently does not take an interest in every magazine article descriptive of incidents occuring in fields far removed from his sphere of action, but it makes no difference where he was located or on which side he fought, if he was an active soldier and engaged in battles, he had to listen to if not to participate in the yells. Hence the subject is one of individual interest to each and every old soldier who was engaged in active warfare during those days that tried mens souls.

Very Sincerely Yours
J. Harvie Dew
