                                                Brashear City, La. Feb. 25th 1863
 
Dear Wife
                                    yours of Feb. 8th arived in due time and was very glad to here from you it finds me at our old camp ground We came back last Monday I dont think we shall stay here long I under stand that we are to have Seventeen Regiments here we expect to go back up the River whare we had the fight with the rebels We shall have to fight next time harder than we did before I think we are anough for them you hurd that Leiut. Gictchell was going home Well I dont know whather he will or not he is at Algers sick but I hurd that he was geting/better if so I don’t think he will go home I hald a letter from George Flanders last night he sad he was going home to be gon tenn days I should like to be thare and see him and have a talk with him about war I think he will dred to go back agane he says that Henry is well if he is I should think he would write to me he has not wrote to me sinse I left home I wish he would go home with George I should like to go home and stay a while with you but it would cost a good deal for me to go I shall have to wait till the war is over before I can go you Spoke About my Alloted pay it is 12 dolars a mounth I was mustard in as Segt and it is/on the alotment roll Sergt I think some of them made a mistake up thare for I have ben and seen the rool and find it all right I dont remember what I told you about it if you would like to draw it and let it out I will send you an order I am willing you should do so my health is very good at presant the gun boat Kinnsman formley Called the Gray Cloud was Sunk last Monday night it went up the River when coming back run against a Snag and split hur in to tha tried to run hur ashore but could not thare was six men drounded it was the boat we went up the river on I dont think of much news to write this time/Give my love to Farther & Mother tell them I am all Right tough as a bear tell Fred I will answer his letter in a few Days Give my Love to all and acept a good share your self          Write soon
