Dear old Comrade:—
For comrades we all are whether we wore the Blue or Gray. I have noticed in the columns of the Confederate Veteran, from time to time, a mention of your book, "From Bull Run to Appomattox", and have wondered if you took part in those stirring scenes in the winter and spring of 65, when the old boys of the Army of Northern Virginia, and the Army of the Potomac grappled for the last time, and shook hands at Appomattox.
I was a participant in those events, and was a member of the 5th Army Corps. I see you send a copy on approval to any patron of the Veteran, and if you are willing to humor an old "Yank" to this extent, why send on a copy. I can refer you to S. A. Cunningham of the Veteran.
Would be pleased to hear from you.
N.B.
With me, the war ended at Appomattox.
Fraternally yours
A. J. Mather,
