William T. Livermore
William T. Livermore was born around 1840 in Maine to David and Sarah Livermore. His father was a farmer who owned $1,800 of real estate and $600 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in Milo, Maine.
 
He enlisted in the Union army on August 29, 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company B of the 20th Maine Infantry. The regiment took part in the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chancellorsville, the Battle of Gettysburg, the Overland Campaign, the siege of Petersburg, and the Appomattox campaign. He was promoted to corporal in 1863 and to sergeant in 1864. He was wounded in the arm in the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864, and he mustered out on July 16, 1865.
 
He returned to Milo after the war. He applied for a federal pension in July 1865 and eventually secured one. He married Alice Stone around 1869, and they had at least five children: Nellie, born around 1871; Carrie, born around 1873; William, born around 1879; Frank, born around 1882; and Alice, born around 1892. He worked as a farmer, and by 1870, he owned $300 of real estate and $800 of personal property. He played an active role in veterans’ affairs, joining the Grand Army of the Republic and serving as president of the regimental veterans’ organization. He died in Milo on August 29, 1911, “after a long and painful illness.”
