Dear Wife
                                    yours of march 15th was recived with much plasure and will annser it in a few lines for we may have orders to start aney minit We arived in alexandria the eighth We have ben twenty five miles aboave here but the rebs could run so much faster than we could we gave up catching them so we turnd round and came back to here We expect to start for Port Hudson tomorrow or next day you must not worey/about me for I am smart as ever We have chased them two hundred and fifty miles and tha have not dared to fight us but once I guess we shall whip them out after awhile I dont get aney news to write up here We are camped on the bank of red River it is one of the nisest cuntris that I ever see I think I shall come out here and live when the war is over I think of aney thing more to write this time We are goin to finish this fighting and then I am coming home and see you Good Buy                        Write Soon
