Mr. Luther W. Hopkins,
100 E. Lexington St.,
            Baltimore, Md.

Dear Mr. Hopkins:-
I have your letter. I am sure the children in the 8th grades will greatly enjoy reading your book. I will read them your letter. I am very much interested in what you have to say. When I have finished your book I will write you again.

I was in Gettysburg during the 50th anniversary of the great battle. I met scores of old "Rebs" and they are fine fellows, too. I had long talks with many who were in Pickett's division. It was a great treat to me to talk with an ex-Confederate. I had an uncle in the 6th Corps, Shaler's division. He was in that early morning attack on Culp's Hill.

Were you in the cavalry fight out east of the town? I spent a day on that field and was impressed with the expense in the various field markers. It is a part of the Gettysburg fight that seems to be little known. I ask you this question because I have not had time to read whether or not you were there. I want to meet you some day. I will salute you and take off my hat and greet you as kindly as an old Federal.

Very truly yours,

C. E. Bryant
