My dear Mr Hopkins—
I can not begin to tell you how I appreciate your sending me that book I certainly do want it. I have not had time yet to read it all as I only got it yesterday, but I just love it & so do my girls, any thing about the war is interesting to us particularly so since we know / the author. Eliza has been absorbed in it, she says it is fine, even down to the picture of that little boy in the front, the author. I want a copy to send to a friend for X mas & enclose a check for same I am going to show it to Mr Bob Murray who is in the bank at the Plains & I think he might be able to get you some orders. Mrs Carmichael moves around so fast I can't / keep up with her, but a letter sent to Winchester Care of Dr McGuire will reach her. the picture you drew of Mr Tucker getting in his mommy's lap is very interesting & funny—I have no idea what his age is, but I expect he would be close to ninety if he was living. I do not think there will be any trouble about finding sale for this book, for there are so many it would interest. I will write you about this later after I have seen Mr Murray. I thought of him because he would feel an interest in selling & should not have to go out of his way to do so as his business brings him in contact with every body in the neighborhood. I thank you more than I can say & I feel very much complimented that you should have thought to send me
