                        Dear Son,
                        We Recd your kind & welcom letter yesterday, & hope your cold is better, use your balsam & try to avoid exposure in the night and & be carefull about buying any truck from them Sesh that you dont get poisened (so Mother says) we are as well as usual the boys got your [?] & fife this morning at Mr Bellows all safe I got the 25 at Birchen & will go to Goshen on Monday for that; & will put all on interest to some safe Union man (no other) as soon as I can see A Crandell i will do so. I cut my shin some & could not go this morning I will let you know soon what he will doo if you can make some arangement with the P. office that your letters will follow you—if you move /
 
Inclosed with this you will find J Gerings letters I wrote to John the same day & requested him to let us know the adress at his camp & I would send him your adress also. the new ground is most all burnt. I helped Mr Zimerman & Mr Trego doo their thrashing. I recd your letter & pamphlet from Philadelphia. Shall I send one to you I am in a hurry today or I will be too late for the mail the friends of all yous boys are well as usual George frank was sick & Samuel Pantias But all ar better but there has been much sickness her of fever flux &c. but no deaths this letter is very much mixed but you must try to make it out /
 
Jeramiah Bellam & Charley Newel ware the officers at the capture of fort Carter. I was presant & Newel was my substitute they walked the Tory under the flag from the Depot to warrens office they had a strong company of old & young to escort him; Newel has listed in the 3 River Company Next Monday Norman Kidder James Grening Eliza Carter & Brother start for the Mississipia
 
Last tuesday the criples ware to be examined at Goshen but it is postpone till Monday; the drafting causes much excitement among the criples, cowerds & old wimen; curosity took me over too. the town was crowded full & on Monday will be a nother time for fun to some /

I must close I hope you will not put off writing so long but write often & we will doo the same you boy, have not got my office of Nurse yet I am ready to come any day
 
Well all of you try & be good boys; good soldiers obedient to your officers & above all be good Christians attend your Meatings &c regular: you have the prayers of your parents & all good peable Brother Johnson praied for you very fervently last sunday night
