Dear Son
I wrote to you the 29 of August but I have since been to Goshen; (yesterday) the order was good; but no money in the Tresuery; it wont be cashed till March Next; but I have made arangements with Mr P. Raush. he will pay his tax with it this fall & give me the cash or I will leve it on intrest with Raush, tomorow I will go down with Mr Trego to get his order accepted & he can sell it to some person
the examination of criples &c comenced in Goshen yesterday & will continue three days / & I never saw so much excitement & confusion at any public gathering; it was held upstairs in the Court House & the door guarded but Crowded; so that they that came down ware handled along over the crowd by hand; somthing like a crowded drawe of sheep jumping over the crowd; but all pased off in very good humer; with much cheering & laughter by young & old; from what I could lern perhaps one out of evry ten criples will be exemted

I saw many old friends there. Jeff Sawder, Dr Chamberlin Mr Bellows Mr Markel and many of the parents & friends of the Bhoys

I saw Abraham Crandel he would like you to keep the pistol but thinks 15 is the lowest he can aford to take for it. he says it cost him 18 besides the shield & belt; he is a poor boy like yourself, & there is some risk in sending it back unless by a private / person; but you must use your own judgement about it.

We are as well as usual & all the friends of the Boys are well & we hope this may find you all well

Mother & the rist of us still look for that likness in your uniform cap & all;

Now Dear son dont forget your prayers & meetings & be cautious in all your intercours with others & especily be observent of the Armey Laws &c &c Now you Trout Crickens we hope you are all good boys & good soldiers & obedient to your officers we miss you all very much here espesily in the church there are a great many seats vacant; which causes many tears & fervent prayers in your behalf that you may be spared to be with us again but you must not get homesick / we will try to get along here & have it the best we can

hoping this may find you all well
