we ware expecting to here from you daily but herd nothing from you since Sept 30th In your last you stated your Regt. was under marching orders; we did not know ware to direct to you; or I would have written sooner; so I direct this to Louisville on a risk
we are all as well as usual & hope this may find you in good health & good spirits; Jacobs little boy died last weak Nicholes Castle preached the funeral sermon & a very good one too the friends of the boys are all well excepting George Frank & S. Pontius they have the Ague again; I am going to help them make their sorgum this weak; we have ourn made; we made a small machien & in 2 days & made ours at home; we have about 15 gallons of very good sorgum & cost nothing but our owne labour /
we Recd another letter from John Gering this weak; I will send it as soon as we here from you & know your adress to a certianty; he is Chaplian of the 27 Rigt wisconsin Vol; & in Camp Washburn Milowaukee, Wisconsin under Capt. Schnellen; he intends visiting his friends; if he can get a furlough & will perhaps then give us a short visit too if posible
yesterday the 18th the Officers are commishioned & one docter examined the criples of Porter & Mason Townships; Edwards case was called General Debility I was along the exam was held near Metiums in Baldings Prairie; there ware some 150 examined; but the result is not known yet. there will be many disapointed. the quota for this county is 294. Porter Toun 56 but got credit for 24, leving about 30 to be drafted in Porter / Porter got no credit for you & John & Fred & such that listed in Ind there are some scant chaps her at presant. we Recd a letter from Aurelia Eckles yesterday. Andrew Kriger & John Eshbauch ware drafted there Andy has gone but John paid 4 hundred for a substitute; 11 of the Omish ware drafted but I dont know who they ware. One went the rest ware clered by paying 2 hundred dols each; there will be or was none drafted from Washington Twp or Bristol; Jacob did not attend the exam here. I think he dont know of the two wars; which he would be best of in; like meny others
we have no news here at presant Thomas Lockand is in the 44th Illinois Regt, was under Nelson;
our wheat is sowed & looks good our Pattatoes are not quit all dug yet but are good. / we have had tolerable fine wether here excepting some rain & it is getting some helthier here but a few cases of Ague now & then my health is tolerable considering & I am at some kind of work daily we have 7 acres of corn to husk for Mr Tipp & some for Mr Bradshaw we will perhaps have sorgum seed enoug to faten our hogs; we get all of Mr McDanels & Mr Franks & some other makes good feed when boild we can gather 60 bushels for nothing
Now dear son I must close with a hope this will find you well & in good cheer; in evry respect I hope you will write soon & give us all the news posible. I hope the boys are all well give our respects to all of them
