            Christmas Day
 
Dear Son
We are trying to injoy this day as well as poseble but there is a vacancy in the family circul which cant be filed till you return—
 
we have just been making an Eat of a turkey; we also have some fresh fish & bags of wurst & sausages & pork & beef & [?] enough to doo us till spring & we all have good Appetites too but we have not butchered yet ourselves; Mother Yerby is here to day; she sends her love to you & we all join in love to you hoping you may have had a very pleasant Christmas & may have a Happy New year & no homesick /
 
well yesterday Mr Barrett returned without geting Mathew & Jacob Pantious (as they expected) Mat is better, but Jacob P. is rather poorley, but he could not get them; I saw Mr Barrett as he landed & had not time to talk mutch with him; but he got the diureha on his return & could not stop to see you I sent your Felons salve by Express & a book & 2 letters by mail. the one with Bayberry & capsicum mixed which you can sprinkel on the salve for a counter irritant on the throat or over the liver for to produce action in thyphoid &c on the chest for inflamation of the lungs if you want any thing let us know as soon as posible /
 
          I dont know what to write at presant news is scarce here we have had a very open winter so far; it is raining now & has been all day; the grain looks quite green; it is generaly healthy here, but wont be so long if this warm wether continues there are some very much frightened about the smallpox the school Mam & Mr Briggses family have been exposed I think the boys are in no danger of geting them; Geo Williams & family; Mr Zimermans son in law, have them in Constantine & very many have been exposed we will try to get the boys likeness as soon as we can get them to Elkhart there is none taken in Bristol & money is scarce at presant & I dont like to disturb yours at Raushes /

Dear Brother I thought I would write a fiew lines more I wish you a merry Christmas. it is raining now the snow is all melted away and it is most as warm as in the spring. Mr Parret came home yesterday he did not get the Boys. Lewis Hamsher is geting better Wm Butts is at home yet. Charley Huff died. he was buried last week he had the Gravel. Anthony Dennis moved to three Rivers. Jake and Mary were here today a little while. the Bristol folks had a large Christmas tree. I want you to write soon and let me know you are geting better. have you got a good place                           to W. O. Albright
