            Dear Son

We Recd yours of the 9th last night & ware glad to here from you but sorry to here that you are not very stout yet. I think if you had some Balsam Demalta it would be just the thing you want you can get the Tincture of Benzoin, Myrrh Tolue & Balsam Perne each 1 oz & a ½ oz of Balsam Perne & mix them then add about 1 oz of Liquorice; this will not cost you much & will strengthen your lungs very much we would send some but you are acquainted with all of the ingrediants & then you can easy get it in St Louis but be carefull & dont buy it of some Scesh or you could get a dose of poison be sure to get it & use it regular the Tinctures are just what you want excepting the Balsam & Liquorice put 2

we are about as well as usual Mr McDunals is geting better. I am sleepy today I sat up last night with George Franks little boy He died last night

yesterday the Corps of your old Capt Davis was brought to Elkhart he died of congestive chills near Nashville. Brown Butts Tregos & Hull T Zimerman are all well Soldier Dillmutter came for Wm Butts this weak with a [?] him & bring him [?]

he & his Bride felt rather badd desertion is a very bad fashion The draft came off in Parter Tp last Monday; the Scesh katched it I dont know all of them. Kleck Hartman O P Bramin Henry Goldsmith &c the last has run off to try to get to Canida. I hope he will be caught none drafted of this end of Township / Today we send you an Elkhart paper; the Oriolo Diese has reference to William Niser trial I wrote of in my last in it you will also find Capt Riley & T O Banks letters & some things about the Copperheads &c &c

you spoke of a ferlough; we would all be very glad to see you but a furlough of 12 days would be of no use; you could not be at home but a few days & that would be hard on us especily on Mother for it would be a hard trial on her again & one that she could not bare as well as the first one which was very hard on her. Mother says if you have money enough to come home there is enough here for you to return with It is true we would like to see you / very much; but if the time would be so short it would make it very hard on Mother & would open the wound afresh, but you must use your owne judgment about this matter but one thing is certain we must have your likeness. I wrote to you about money wether you wanted any you did not say in your last if you wanted any or not; so I thought I would send one Dol today & if you want more you must let us know; we think you could write a little oftener; you must use some Capricum it will prevent you of taking cold & get that Balsam & disolve the Perne & Liquorice in it & it will doo you much good but be carefull who you get it off

We all join in love to you
