Dear Son
We just Recd your letter of the 22d inst & I went right to work to answer it I dont know how much I can write for I am som under par at presant day before yesterday I was attacted very sudenly with another spell of bleeding at my lungs; while coming home from Mr McDanals; but it was soon stoped with flaxseed oil but my chest is very sore. I bleed a little yet but not to hurt me any The rest are all well as usual the 2 are in school. Edward is mending shoes & Mother is kniting & today I am dooing nothing; but tomorow I will try to go to town & send this letter & a Telescope & have some news if there is any about the war &c /
the Brethern Meeting lasted 9 days there ware 12 joined the Church George Frank & wife; Mrs Bradshaw Joann Storey, Mary Miller, Mrs Hawks Bat Crandel & his Mother & Jacobs Moll; &c. some will be good members. some doubts about some I hope your change will be for the better; better but I fear the drum will be too heavy for your strength & perhaps will be vetoed again as in the armey; but you must know which you can stand best try to take it cool about your revolver perhaps it will come to light yet if the Lieut can he will get it if he can or make the Col pay for it he will perhaps find it yet; if the drum would be vetoed again I would not trade on any other condition, unless you cant stand fifeing /
Jacob Pontious is in a Hospitle near Cincinatti O. Expects to stay there till spring; D. Uplinger has come to life again & is with his Rigt near Nashville Tenn.
Mr Zimmerman got a letter from John yesterday they are all well try to have some good friends at hand so if you cant write some friend can doo it for you & if you get on the boat you may perhaps get in some other easy birth; writing clerking nursing or somthing of that kind. I would like to be a nurse on the boat there would not be so many to take care of at a time; I expect your Rigt will be divided in sevral boat crews & not all on one boat; when you can & know more about it let us know all about the arangements &c / & also let us know how you will get our letters on the boat &c you can drop one to us at almost any village out of Rebeldom but we cant see how you are to get our letters on the boats Asher Gould & Marve Cothront have got home. Discharged I think I saw them both. Marv looks bad I see in the papers they are geting very strict on diserters especily Genl Hooker. also on Scesh officers it appears there is to be some dunging out done in the armey
Well news is scarce here & the boys are going to write tonight so I will close for the presant with our best love to you. write soon & often you need mind writing to hard yet a while; tend to us first I will send some stamps & change if I can get them in town.
your affect
