Dear Son
you will perhaps think we are over anchious for writing so soon again; but I thought you would be some anxious about us on account of my bleeding at my lungs; I have got quite over it again & am about as well as usual the rest are all as well as comon Mother is sometimes troubled about you but more about our troubles here you know; we all hope this find you well & in good lively spirits; war is attended with very many trials & hardships; but you have certainly got into one of the most easy places you could get into; & we hope you will try & not get homesick or discontented that would give us more trouble / we certainly cant deny being lonesom that is true but we will try to have it the best we can & be as contented as posible & we hope you will try to doo the same; be patient if you have any trials these you must look on as a natrual thing for the soldier to have in many difrent ways but the only way is to try to be a good faithful soldier & a true Christian spirit will help you to bare your trials so much better. we here all look for a short but perhaps a severe strugle & then the battle will be over & our boys can come home onc more to enjoy the company of those who very anxiously look for you all to se you again in the old family circle to enjoy your deserved rest & your good old sweet homes /
the boys of your Rigt ware not the onley ones that had to give up their revolvers the 88th & others had to doo the same many did not like the plan but I have understood it was done to prevent any rash or improper use of them in disputes with citizens &c I have no doubt you will get your revolver or the pay for it at some time; so I hope you will take it as cool as posible you can; for the Col was ordered to doo so We have no news of interest at presant the Copperheads are begining to get a little more like they should be here some of their leders have turned over & they are begining to see how what the soldiers think of their conduct /
today I herd a letter red from Jacob Pontius he is quite poorley again & dose not think he will live long but I have forgotten the name of the Hospitle he is in in Ohio near Cincinatta I think; his Brother Bengn is also very poorly in Virginia his sister near Goshen died last weak I sent a nother paper last weak & also some P.O. stamps & a little change if you want any thing I hope you will let us know so we can send it to you; we have not herd any thing from Wm Butts for some time but he was sent to the Rigt; they are geting very severe on diserters there are some 20 to be shot in Hookers armey in virginia; and Genl Rosecrance is Physicking his armey too of Scesh &c he has turned off some 40 officers of all grades; Your Parents in Love
