Dear Son
I seat myself to try to write a little to you. We Recd your letter of April the 2d & ware very glad to here from you; but sorrey you had the Disentary again. hope you have recovered again; have you any Neutaralizing Mixture & any Tormantill you must let us know what you want & we will send it in a box to Cairo or any other place you can get it. & we will try to send some dryed fruit of difrent kinds &c I tryed to send you P.O. stamps when I could get them but they are sometimes hard to get here too Inclosed you will find 10 stamps & I will send more in my next letter Mr Seely will get some for us by next weak or so /
we are sorrey you dont get our letters sooner we have wrote almost 2 to your one we always answer yours as soon as we get one from you & then we write one between time sorry you did not get those papers we sent they ware verry interesting speaches &c but we will try it again. the Mails are sometimes so crowded & the papers are left out for a while so we have been informed I will tend to Mr Schrader on the quick Process I was satisfied he was lying but I thought it would be best to write to you first before I would sue him I was siting up last night with Mr Bradshaws sick boy so I dont feele very bright this morning I will try to write more soone /
the boys have wrote some but I dont know what so I write at random
We are about as well as usual; Mother is some pleged with the dropsey of the chest this spring again but hope it will pop off soon again. she has much trouble & vexation (you will understand this) Mrs Spotts is not expected to live but a few weaks from dropsey of the chest. she suffers much the neighbors are about as well as usual onley a few cases of Typhoid fever; we had much news in our last letter to you hope you have Recd it before this time today we have not much news only about the Elections we have caused a serious decline in Copperheads; they are geting fare below par in voters / in our township we beat them 45 votes & the state has gone strong in favor for Republicans & in all the states herd from the our caus & Republecism has had a large increas; Even the state of Missouria has gone Republecan largley & strong war news is rather scarce here now there has been some small Battles in in difrent parts of Tenn Virginia & Ky. which have all been in our favour & the genaral report here today is that we are in posession of Charleston; that is our Armey & fleat have taken it Now we have whiped the Copperheads in the North & we expect you soldiers to trim them out in the South & we think you can doo it; I must close with our love to you
