Bristol Elkhart County In May 10th
 
            Dear Brother
I once more with pleasure sit down to write a fiew lines to you. I hope this will find you enjoying good health the folks here are as well as common Mr Trego had a letter from Aaron a fiew days ago they were al well. John Zimmerman had the Typhoid Fever, but he is well again and with the ridgment. they were expecting a battle at or near Murfresborough.
 
Old Mrs. Tippin is dead. She was buried last Sunday. Mr Tippin is at J Barkers. the weather is warm and pleasant now. the wheat looks good. whe have planted our potatoes and Sorgum. whe have sowed Spring rye on the ground whare whe had wheat last year whe have planted half an / aker of potatoes, and about an aker of Sorgum the side hill before the house is planted with Sorgum and the ground whare was planted with potatoes last year is planted with Sorgum. if we dont get no frost yet there will be plenty of peaches and apples. Martin Lochard has enlisted in a Cavalry Company they are in camp at cold water now. Mr McDaniels is getting better he is able to walk around some. Mrs. Spots is poorly She has got the dropsy.
 
I must close for the presant, as father is a writing he will tell you all the news. I guess thare is some good news for they are a firing the old cannon now, this Sunday evenning, I hope Let us hear from you soon write as often as you can. from your affectionate Brother
