Dear Brother
i take this presant opertunity to informe you that i am well at this presant time and i feal thankful to God that it is so and i hope and pray to God that thease few lines may find you enjoying the same good blessing of good health i got your kind letter dated the same time as you cald it with May Marys letter it came to hand on the 1 of September and it brought both bad and good news bad news beeang you stated that pap had bean very sick but i am glad that he is getting better and i hope that he may recover entireley and enjoy good health again / i want you to give them my best respects and love and tel the Boys that i will send them some of them nise Dimond stones as soon as i can and fore them to be good Boys and do all that thay can for on the farm and take good care of themselves and to give them Copperheads shucks and not let them run over them But to stick up fore the Union and Old Abe and Andy and to have thair flag on a long pool and if any body Copper snake goes to pull it to batter his head with clubs and buckcats down heare whe butter them with bullits bum shels and cannon balls / i was glad to heare that you had got into a fix it is good fore you and i hope Bill that you will study down and stick to it do the best that you can as a Class Leader and Sunday School teacher and put your trust in god and he will help you in every time of nead pray often in secret fore secret prayer is the life of the true Christian and without the help of god you will be unable to fill the position that you ocupy But it is my sincear prayer to Almighty god that you may fill your position as a good Christian and at last resieve a crown of glory in the better world above wheare i hope that whe will all be permited to meet /
Bill i want you to pardon me fore medling a littel with your buisness But i hope that you will permit me to give you a littel advise conserning (Ann. Cr.) perhaps i no moore about hir than you do; and then you do as you please i think that she is a good girl and a good girl to work But Bill she is very waste full and furthermore she is ingaged to be married to James Luft as soon as he returns home from the army and i dont think Bill that she would suit you very well i hope that you wont think hard fore writing so But i have done it fore your own good you can now do as you think best Ask Mary about hir dont let any se this letter but Mary. whe have had a smart littel fight fore particulars se Marys letters i will write to pap as soon as i can i want you to write often to mee remember me in your prayers from your affectionate Brother J.
