Dear Cosen I thought that I would write you a few lines in answer to your kinde letter of the third inst. it found me well and in good spirits And I hope that these few lines will find you enjoying the blessing of health and prosperity I was very glad to hear from you and hear that you with all the rest was well The weather is quite pleasant here to day but for a weak past it has rained nearly all the time and makes it very mudey a getting around but with the exception of the past weak we have had a nice fall and very pleasant We had an Election for presedent allso the state of Michigan every thing went off smoothly giveing a majority of three fourths of the votes and three over for Olde Abe and the Ohio Regaments that was here at the time done better than we did
Up with the stars of liberty and down with the lovers of peas for they are devlish in the extreem /
The health of the solgers at this post has bin very good this fall there was a quite a fourse at one time this fall but a larg majority has gone on farther west after Olde Price and his crew. There is now about eight thousand strong here the most of the Regaments here has built winter quarters & it is probably they will stay here during the winter we have got very comfortable quarters the cabins is made of logs with good fireplaces made of clay and sticks There was a detail made in this regament last weak to go up the river on a scout they was a hundred and fifty of them that went they went on a boat about sixty miles they was a looking for bushwhackers they were gon three days and brought in sixteen priseners besides a lieutenant and killed one the oficers was a recruiting for prices Armey but he is out of imployment now recruiting is played out with him /
All of the boys from that vasinaty is well and feels to rejoice of the news that honest Olde Abe is elected and is still holde of the helm of the ship of state feeling that he will stear her safe threw the stormy sea of rebellion to a harber of peas and freedom which will be permanent & secure We all send our best respects to you
P S I wish you would let me know whare Mike Simmerman is I heard that he ran away and was taken and put under guard and sent back to the regament but the number I dont know I would like to write to him if I could find out whare he is
