Dear friend William
I now seat myself to answer your leter that I received some time ago but have not writen to you the excuse that I have is that I had no paper for some time then I got paper I was very much at a lose to find time to write and now it will rob me of sleep but write I will, trusting that you will excuse me for this if I dont do the same thing over I am well at presant my helth was never beter than it is now and I hope that this may find you enjoying the same blesing I have just come home from a prayr meeting we have got a log meeting house and a new chaplain this one has the apearence of a very good man he also has the name a mong his friends that know him / we had a very good time this evening we have preaching sunday at half past ten and prair meeting in the evning I wish I could be at old trout Crieck once in a while to meting it would seem so like old times the old church even in my fancy I see it now the yard the fense broken down they are still fresh in my mind and those that I used to meet there some of them have gon to the land from wherse no travler returneth Oh. who can tell the change that one short year will make in a place only God can he knoweth all things and while i think of the changes of time my friend my hart trembles to think many of us will never meet again in this world but may God help us so to live that if we do not see each other in this world we may meet in heaven /
 
I got a leter from my wife a day or two ago her helth was very poor then one of the children was sick when I hear such news from home it makes me homsick the boys are well jake and George jake is going to write to you he will tel you the news so that I will not try to write a very long letter now is there any mor news there now what does the folks think of it At this time there is a rumer here that Jeff has advised Lee to surrender richmond rather than have it burned. it is now late and the bugal has sounded lites out so I must stop please excuse the mistakes in this and the poor writing
