UNION FOR EVER
 
Dear Brother the above is our motto & while you are far from home fighting for the good old union we will always Ever re-member you as our Dear Brother defending the union, and hope the time is not far distant, when rebelion may be crushed from the face of the earth. When you will be able to return to our embrace in our family circle. We are all tolable well. We received a letter from you to day containing your likeness. they look very well. We all think you look healthy, and fleshyer than you did. Where did you git them moustaches, and Beard. they look better on a soldier than they would on a Preacher. your little cousin has died uncle henry bolgers son William aged 11 years 5 months. Norman kidders other child has died. he has buried two children in a short time. Mr Moffet preached the funerl sermon. he couldent help it but to give the [?] in his sermon and even in his prayer. i hope these few lines will find you getting better. I must close for the present it is getting late.

Dear Brother
I sit down this evening to write a fiew lines to you. I hope this will find you enjoying good health. I am about as well as comon. I feel pretty tired this evening i helped Henry Bucher move to day he has rented Goldsmiths Farm he pays two hundred dollars rent a year. Gold Smith moved to Canada's Manuel Aurand is dead he died very suden was only sick a fiew days had something like the typhoid fever.
 
Asher Gould, Marven Cathcart and George Conglin came home they were sick and got discharged Mike Zimmerman got a letter from fred Stiner to day. the Boys were all well.
 
Samuel Pontius has the typhoid fever. he is quite poorly. the rest of the folks here are all well / Father was to uncle John Gormans came home to day. they are all well George Lochard is working for Nate Tibet. Father says he smells some of cotton. Concerning the weather it has been rather more like winter this month than it was in Febuary it has so far been cold and stormy it snowed some yesterday and snowed to day
