Poem, undated
1 Dearest friend why do you tarry?
Leave this world and go with me
Jesus offers us to carry,
If in faith we to him flee.
Oh, dear friend then do not linger,
Jesus died for you and me.

2 I am of this Desert weary,
Though I've loved it long and well.
It is empty, cold and dreary,
With no joys the heart to swell.
Therefore I am now a Pilgrim,
Seeking where my thirst to quell.

3 Oh, how happy is that Pilgrim,
Who is at his journey's end;
On the banks of Jordan standing
Sighing for the joys beyond. /
Dearest friend that joy is ours,
If we're faithful to the end.

4 It is true, the path is rugged;
And in places hard to climb.
But we must not be discouraged,
Jesus is to sinners kind.
He will guide us safely onward,
Never leaving us behind.

5 We must fight if we would conquer;
For our foe is verry strong.
But the Christian's faith is stronger,
Through which we can overcome.
Jesus gives it to the Soldier,
Who is fighting bravely on. /

6 When at last our Bridegrom calls us
From this life of weary toil.
Faith o'er Jordans waves will lead us
To that Land of bliss and joy;
Where with saints we'll sing loud praises
To the King of Light and joy.

7 Many who have gone before us
We shall meet beyond the Skyes.
Father, Mother, Sisters Brothers,
All who fought untill they died.
Jesus will then own and keep us,
Heirs of blessings unalloyed.

8 When at last the resurrection,
Dawns upon this world of sin.
Those will find a kind protection /
Who through life have faithful been
But the Scorner meets destruction
For his life of crime and Sin.

9 Then my Friend delay no longer,
Life is short and Death is sure.
Oh why will you longer wander,
Christ will make you clean and pure
*Chide his loving face* no longer,
Make your soul's own election sure.

*Grieve                       *heart
