Indianapolis.)
Dear Gen:-
One of the Captains in our regiment – Patrick Carland – who is a Methodist Minister, desires to be made Chaplain, and if the change could be made I think it would be desirable. He is notafit man for the position he now holds, and hisbeing retained in it hurts, ifit does not destroy the efficiency and dicipline of a company. Will you be kind enough to mention this matter to the Governor?
Has our reguirent been completed? Ifso, where are the other companies? If they are in Ky., andare to remain in that army, I believe I would like to be placed in Command of them. With only six companies here there is hardly field enough for the exercise of the talents of a Col., Lt. Col., and Major-
My regards to the Madame-
Very truly yours.
Geo. H. Chapman.
