Thomas Hunton Foster
Thomas Hunton Foster was born around 1835 in Virginia to James and Sarah Foster. His father was a farmer who owned $43,540 of real estate and $28,720 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in Fauquier County, Virginia.
 
He enlisted in the Confederate army on August 27, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company H of the 6th Virginia Cavalry. The regiment took part in the Seven Days’ Battles, the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Chancellorsville, and the Battle of Gettysburg. He eventually earned promotions to 3rd lieutenant, 2nd lieutenant, and finally to 1st lieutenant. Union forces captured him on September 13, 1863, near Culpeper, Virginia, and imprisoned him at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland. They transferred him to Point Lookout in Maryland in April 1864, and he died there on August 20, 1864.
