Camp near Lavergne
July 7th 1863.
Dear Sister,
I again seat myself with pen in hand to write you a few lines and i thank God that i have a sister Mother and Brother at home to write to I received your letter of the 27th in good time and was glad to hear that you were all well and getting along so fine. Ben jeffery keeps about one thing it appears as if he dont gain much We have rain evry day. We had a first rate time on the fourth. all of our officers gave us a speech which made the time pass off quite pleasant. I send you a mussell shell ring that i got on the fourth. We received cheering news yesterday and i hope that it is all so. if it is i think that the war will / soon end and we will all get home to friends most dear.
We have plenty of ripe blackberries now there is more here than i ever saw at home. there is a good market here the citizens bring fruit and vegetables of evry kind and bulbs in to sell but they are pretty good prices. butter is 30 cts per lb. new potatoes $1.00 per bu.
I havent much to write but try to write a little evry week.
I want you to send me some more stamps.
