William H. Bone to Emma J. Bone, 5 June 1864
June 5th 1864

Dear sister
Where I am I can hardly tell but am thankful to a kind providence that I am permitted to scribble you a few lines and let you know that I am well except pretty near tired out laying in rifle pits almost every day. We have had rain for four days in succesion. about 10 oclock this morn it ceased and now is pleasant over head. We have been fighting here since the 25th of May. Our Division has been lucky it has not been / engaged but very little and that in skirmishing. there was a man by the of Turer in our company shot himself through the thigh accidentaly. his leg will had to be cut off. I believe that the range of hills that we are fighting on are called the Altoona Mountains. Before we left Nashville the boys or some of them wanted to get to the front. I think they are satisfied now and wish themselves to the rear again. I came out to help put down this rebelion and whereever my commanders say go I expect to make a strong effort, and trust that god will go with me / whereever I may be sent. since we have come to the front there has been a great change among the boys. there has been but very little profane language and swearing done. Well Emma I have nothing more to write this time. More than I want each of you to Rember Remember me at a throne of grace.

Good by
Yours truly
Wm H Bone.
