William Rodgers Memoir, 30 March 1881
William Rodgers was born in the Town of Mountpleasant in Westmoreland County Pennsylvania on the eight day of Febuary in the year one thousand eight hundred and six. I lived with father and mother in Mountpleasant untill I was eighteen or ninteen years old I then went from Mountpleasan to Blairsville Indiana County Pa. lived their five years then went to the Connemaugh Salt Works in said County whare I started a store lived their one year then I moved to Brookville in Jefferson County Pa in the begining of December eighteen hundred and Thirty, at that time thy ware but four or five houses in Brookville I opened a store in 1831 & Continued on store keeping a few years after I came to Brookville. The first office which/the first office which I held after I came to Jefferson County ware Judge of Election of Rose Township in the year 1832 Brookville then being in Rose Township, the next office which I held was one of the Town Councel after Brookville had become a Borrough in the year 1834 I was appointed Post Master at Brookville and remained in that office eight years during the Administration of General Jackson and Martin Vanburen as presadants of the U.S. And in August 1835 I was elected Magor of the first Batalion one hundred and forty fifth Regiment of the Militia of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I received my Commision as Magor from George Wolf then govenor of the state of Pa. in the year 1837 I was Appointed by the Commissioners of Jeffers County Treasuer of said County and seved two years I have been elected and seved as Constable of the Borrough of/Brookville for 10 or 12 years also have held many township offces in Rose Township and in the year 1862 I volantear and seved in the Union Army eighteen monts at the time of the late rebelion I have lived in the Borrough of Brookville and Rose Township ever since I first came to Jefferson County Pa This ritten March 30th 1881 by William Rodgers
 
P.S. My fathers name was John Rodgers My Mothers Maden name was Elisabeth McCarnathan my father and mother ware married in Philadelphia both natives of Ireland, my fathers famly consisted  of five Children, three boys and two girls (namly) James, Micheal, William, Elisa and Mary Catharine. Elisa died when young she was perhaps six or eight years old. she is Berried in the grave yard at Mountpleasant. Brother Micheal was a Printer by Trade and died/in Princetown State of Kentucky some fifteen or twenty years ago brother James and sister Catharine I believe are still living James lives in Elisabeth Westmoreland County Pa sister Catharine was married to a Mister Thomas Chapman hir husband is ded she lives in Quincey State of Illinoise.
