Camp near Petersburg
My dear Wife itake this time to answer your letter which i received last night and was glad to hear from you iam well and harty we have moved three times since irote before and idnt know how soon we shall again we dont have any notice ondly to pack up every thing and start their was a battle here about a week ago iwas where icould hear it plain and see the smoke of the guns idont think that we shall have to come into battle this fall when their is a battle we have / we have to move up and do picket duty and then move off to some other place George Moulton is here he has ben here about six weeks you wanted to know if your Father could have my over coat he can have it in welcome you wanted to know if ihad any money ihave gut about one Dollar left that will last me till we get paid of ithink we shall get paid this month ishall send it home as soon as i get it for iwant to have two hundred Dollars in the bank when i come home if you are all well idont spend any more than ican help sometimes iwant something besides / hard tack and pork you nead not send me anything till ilet you know ihad apresent of agood dress coat that will save me about nine Dollars you wanted to know if ihad ket my promice ihave ket it tell mr Clark that ihave not heard from him yet ihave ben looking for aletter amonth you wanted ishould rite offen irite as soon as iget one from you we are about four miles from Petersburg rite as soon as you get this direct as before idont think of any thing more so iwill you good by from Husband
