Dear Wife itake this time to answer your letter which ireceived this morning and was glad to hear from you iam well and hope you are the same iam on picket now we went out last night and shall stay here till wednesday night we are about 1½ miles from Camp we are in sight of the rebs picket we change papers with them most every day their is not much fireing on the line we have agood time on picket their is ten of us in apit and the pits about six rods apart /
 
ihave not hurd from Eliza ishould like to hear from her tel mrs Adam she must wait for her rent till icome home we lay on the ground when we are on picket but their plenty of wood to keep afire for we are in the woods we think we shall get our pay this week so look out for a letter ishall send it home tell Lizzie ithink of her agreat deal and she must be agood girl imust close now and go into Camp to put it in the office so it will go to city point to night /
