Dear Mother
I thought I would write you a few lines to let you know how I am I am all right so far we had to turn out 3 oclock this morning on account of the rebs shelling ows we did not have any men lost in our regiment this morning they was one man wounded in the 48 New York regiment he was wounded in the knee mother the rebs have shelled ows 3 times within 2 day our folks have met but 3 or 4 men in the whole the shelling would last about 7 hours at a time It is about 5 oclock I am writing to you this morning / the rebs lost some I gess by our shells I hard they lost 4 out of one company night before last mother I received the papers and tobacco you sent me I got them last night I was very glad to get the tobacco I think you sent it out to me very cheap only 2 cents to get it out hear how much is that to have a plug mother I tell you what I wish you would do for me I wish you would tell Harriet to get a good bunch of invilopes and her name printed on some of them and your name put Mary Hamant name on some of them be sure and have printed on them first George Forbes name on some of them what looks the best I think send some of them [?] but I was sory I had not got any from you [?] mother I expected to get a letter from you last night
