Bermuda Hundred Va June 15 1864
 
Dear Mother
I received your letter last night that you wrote me the 8 of this month and the papers to and the picture and the invelopes I was very glad to get them why dident you send me them matches in the packeg of papers I wish you had sent them to me will you send me some in the next lot of papers you send me and I want you to send me a small hand of tobacco If you would send them in diferent things to me I would be very thankful / to you the reason I send after thes things because I have got out of money and I dont know when whe shall be paid off but I shouldent wonder if the paid ous off pretty soon mother you wrote me about my box you was agoing to send the sooner you send it to me the better it is for me if you get this letter before you send the box I wish you would me 2 or 4 bottles Seth Arnold's medicine you wrote me about them shirts you was agoing to send me I tell you what I want you to do I want you to send 2 or 3 samples of some cloth that you think / will make good shirts I want you to wash them before you send them to me to see they wont faid mother I want a good pair of shirts once in my life if I can have them If they do cost high mother how do you suppose I know what kind of cloth that is you wrote me about that cloth what I should like best the black and white or the red and black how do you suppose I know any thing about the cloth when I can see some of it I can tell better about it mother you wrote me you thought it was risky in sendding / me a box what ods does it make to you supposing I dont get the box you ant agoing loose anything by it send it on as soon as you can and I will be satisfied and I shant be till you send the box send me a ½ of dozen of clay pipes mother I am well and I hope you are the same we have pretty cold nights hear now I am glad that you and Harriet is so smart I am sorry for Grandmother she is so low but it is nothing more then we would expect she is so old tell her I send my best respects to her and I wish I would see her once more in my life but I dont think I ever shall I want you to answer this letter as soon as you can I want you to keep sendding me a sheet of paper and invelope every once in a while I must be a drawing to a close this from your only Son

you wanted me to have mine taken but [?] ordered it to you they ant any place out here where taken them that picture of mine looks better then I expected was that the best one 
 
I am glad Grandmother is some better tell her I would like to see her I send my love to her and you and mother I want you to answer this letter as soon as you get it I received the [?] and the Republican I was very glad of them send me another small hand of tobacco by mail I

Harriet was that order all right I sent home to you If it was I want you to let me know it and then if I dont live to get home mother [?] drawing the money without much troubble Harriet you ask mother if I ever sent my certificate of my old inlistment I want you to let me know about it
