Dear Sister
I thought I would write you a few lines to let you I have got that letter you wrote me the 14 of this month and the tobacco I was glad to get them both I am well and I hope you are the same they is very heavy firing going on at Petersburg to day I think old Grant is their I know he is our folks had very heavy fighting here yesterday I was in it the rebs did not / make out anything I think they lost a good many men in a charge when they tried to take our rifle pits they did not make out any thing by trying before we drove them back we had three men wounded in our company and they was another man shot his middle finger off on his right hand by a accident you wrote me about mothers sendding my box it seems she dont hury much about If I was there and anyone sent after anything I should remember to get it for them as soon as I could / mother dont seem to hury much about my box I never see it take her so long to get a box ready as it does this you dont know how glad I would be to get it you tell her I have got money enough to home to pay for them things If I hant you tell her she kneed not send them if I hant I gess I have got enough in bank hant I will you send me an nother invelope and a sheet of paper and some postage stamps and some [?] plaster to besides they weather is very hot hear to day we / cool nights hear now I send my love to you and Grandmother and mother Isac Leyon and Henry Stanton are hear I want you to answer this letter as soon as you get this I got a letter from Mary Hamant yesterday I must be a drawing to a close this from your brother

you tell mother she has a good deal to say about my box but I dont see as it gets hear yet I dont like to have any one talking about a thing and not doing it
