Bermuda Hundred Va July 2 1864
Dear Sister Harriet
I thought I would write you a few lines to find out how you are your health I suppose your heal is good mine is good I was very glad to get the letter you wrote me the 28 of last month I think you wrote me a very good and Loren to so Harriet I am on picket to day I went out as videt this morning at 4 oclock come off at 6 oclock when I was out as videt I could see the rebs rifle pits very plain they about 200 yards from where we are / I can see the rebs very plain they are the biggest men I ever see in my life they are healthy I tell you our folks tell about the rebs being starved out If you should the crops hear see the corn and oats and wheat they is acres of grain hear the corn is 3 or 4 feet high they is just as good water hear as they is at home you wanted to know how far I am from Richmond I am 11 miles from their It would be very hard work for our folks to go to Richmond this way have you heard from Warren Dodge very lately Can you tell me how to / direct a letter to him you be sure and let me know about it you wrote me that Lucie Dodge was at our our house when you wrote to me last has mother got my shirts done yet tell her I dont want her to make the collars to over I want them to not to turn over mother knows how to make have a bindding on them about an inch high If she has made them to turn over I want them them altered I want her to alter to send them to me as soon as she can because I have not got but 1 shirt to my back / we cant drawing clothing very often now when I wash my shirt I have to wear my blouse when my shirt is drying mother will you send my best hat out to me send it out in some ones box Harriet did you have any of my pictures taken at Worcester how many of them did you have taken of them will you find out by Unkle Pearleys folks how to direct a letter to William Stevens
Harriet how did you send the bill of my things by letter or in a box I hope you have sent it in a letter I am a going to send a few lines to Charles Convers and I want you to send it to him the next time his folks write to him
