Deep Bottom Va August 21 1864
Dear Mother
I thought I would write you a few lines to let you know how I am my health is good and I hope yours is the same I have just got back of an exbistion got hear this morning I have ben gone just a week our Regiment had 103 killed and wounded and taken prisnores our company had 3 men killed and 6 wounded Charley Dickinson was wounded in his left side but I think he / will get over his wound he was sent right off to some of the hospitals north Norris Lyons was killed in carry off one of our wounded men In our regiment company he was hit right in the head I never see him after he was hit mother I never herd the bullets [?] thick arround me as tha did their I thought I had seen hard fighting but I never did till this time the bullets rained like hale stones mother I want you to have Harriet get me as late a Boston / Journal as she can one that tells about our fight and about our regiment and in it Frank Luskins paper that got that picture in about that mans being shot I saw him shot they fired 2 volleys at him the first one they did not kill him and then fired another volley at him and and that killed him he fell right forward when he fell mother Lorenzo Doran sent a register of our company he sent it for me I want you to get a frame / for that and hang it oup in the parlor will you I want you write me what you think of that the key [?] of the battles battles our regiment has bin in I got the dollar you sent me and the 2 papers I wish you would send me some postage stamps will you why cant you send my letter Co G 24 Reg Mass Vol via Fort Munroe Va that is the way I want them directed I hant got this lost box of things you sent me [?] box I send my love to all of you I hope to hear from you all soon I must be a drawing to a close

get me good paper will you write me how much it cost & if Turner has got back to the company again mother I am thankfull I wasnt hit in that last fight I was in camp I am in hopes to be spared by the Lords will to see you once more tell Charley Forbes I send my love to him and [?] I have not got the [?] yet
