Dear Sister Harriet
 
I thought I would write you a few lines to let you know that I got your letter you wrote me the 21 first of this month I got it last night I was very glad to hear from you and to hear you was so well my health is good as ever i am in the trenches to day I expect to go in to camp to night ours had a man killed day before yesterday he was on picket he was shot right through the heart George Slayton / was in the same pit with he was killed at 6 oclock in the morning he laid their from that till 6½ oclock at night they did not any one dare to go to him because they was afraid of getting hit he was a very good man he left a wife and 2 or 3 children in Boston you wanted to know if I got any apples or peaches I can buy them here they sell peaches 5 and 6 for 25 cts yous to buy watermellon for 100 and 1.50 cts 2.00 a pint we cant buy any more because they are all gone Harriet I think of that / bunch of envelopes you sent they are very good ones I think Harriet I wish you would send me by mail 4 bottles of Seth Arnolds Medicine since I hant as quick as you are tell Mother I want her to send me that Cranbery sauce as quick as she can Harriet have they had any money taken from the grist mill I heard they I want you tell if it is so how is it with Mr West now does he get along pretty well now Is Mary Kiel pretty smart now tell her I send my best respects to her and I would like to get a letter from her I think / Unkle Williams wrote Mother just a present for the times Harriet I wish you would send me another True Flag or a American Icon send me as new one as you ever get I think our folks are a having great victories wouldnt you Genl Sheridan is doing well I think dont you think so I send my best respects to Grandmother and mother to and your friend to I want you to answer this letter as soon as you get this will you I must be a drawing to a close this from your brother
