Dear Cousin
As i have not heard from you i thought i would write you a few lines my health is good and hoping these few lines will find you the same we are on the tennessee river 6 miles from Alabama lines it is very warm weather here we are within 25 miles of a large rebel Camp thay say thare is 100 thousand of them our Camp is 10 miles long and 5 miles wide we have 100 thousand soldiers here some soldiers went up the river yesterday / and had a little fight 3 gun boats was with them we will have a big fight if thay stay where thay are and i guess thay will for thay have so meny and all well armd and plenty of amunition and thay are very near surrounded with heavy cannon and plenty of infantry All of our boys are eager for a fight for thay wanto get the war closed for thay wanto go home that is my fix i have bin out now most 1 year i should not wonder a bit if i should enlist in the Regular survice i think if we go in the day here it will finish up the fighting in the western Devision for thay have got all the forces concentrated at this place and thay get reinforced every day / and so do we for soldiers come in every day by boat loads we will make the atack the 10 of this month that will give us a chance to get every thing ready to clean the thing out in a hurry but thare will be a large loss of lives on boath sides we cant get nigh enuff with infantry to hurt them but our cannon will reach them i guess i i have writen all the news miranda is sick in the hospital at Cincinnati but not dangerous
