Camp Helena Arkansas April 9th 1863
 
Dear Wife it is with
Respect that I write these few lines to let you know that I am well at this time and hope these few lines will find you and the rest of the family in good health I haint much to write this time but thought that I would write a few lines to let you know that I am well and doing well at present and let you know that we expect to leave here in a few days but dont know where we will go to we may goe up the river and we may goe down there aint any one knows where we will goe to we may not leave here it is hard to tell /
 
I have drawed some money drawed for five months $61.95cts I will send you 10 dollars which you may use and if this goes through I will then send some more which I want you to keep I think that $10 dollars will do till I come write if you get this and let me know about it
