In the rear of Vicksburg
June 23th 1863
Dear & ever respected Companion
it is with pleasure that I write these few lines to let you know that I received your kind letter last knight of the 10th of June and was glad to hear from you I am well at this time and hope these few lines will find you and the family well as Corbley was writing to Call I thought I would put in a few lines to let you know that what you have heard is not so and hope it wont be but I dont know what may hapen in fifteen days we have to goe in the rifle pits to morrow and if we stick our heads up above the breast works we may get a bullet through our hats / then we have three times more to goe before our time is out I expect to start home as soon as my time is out or before if nothing happens but get along the best you can and if you need that money why use it for I have enough money coming to me to pay Munsull that 50 Dollars
I believe this is all for the present as I wrote a long letter a few days a goe
