respected miss
after my best
respects to you

I am well at
this present
time and I hope
that these few lines will find you in the enjoyment of the same now then in the first place I must let you know that we are packing up for to start on a march on to morrow morning but where we are agoing / I do not know but there is one thing sertain and that is we are agoing where there is something to do and there is where we want to go so that we get this war ended and then we will have a jolly time when we march in to decatur and from that home the boys all is in hopes of the war being over in a verry short time now as the northern troops is makeing a / forward move all along the lines and they have won severel glorious Victoryes in the last few weeks and the orders is now that they are to put it through and whip the southern army out from the word go so that the stars and stripes may wave over the entire united states where it has waved so triumphantly for so many years may the god of battle protect it that it may never be / trod upon or draged in the dust by the outrageous trators of the rebel army but may it proudley wave now then I suppose that it is no use for me to rite any more as you are promiced to another man and will be married as soon as this war is over for him and mary elen mclure is not agoing to get married for I am aware of that fact and severl more things that has transpired between you and him
